When the nominees for the 2019 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target were announced Thursday afternoon, there were the mixed reactions to the Union nominations. Most notably a few new key pieces that have propelled the Union into first place in the Eastern Conference not making the ballot.
The first name comes from MLSSoccer.com's Tom Bogert who mentioned 18-year-old homegrown Brenden Aaronson.
ESPN's Taylor Twellman added another name to the mix with left back Kai Wagner, putting the 22-year-old in the mix for "arguably in the conversation of best LB in MLS".
I’d add Kai Wagner from @PhilaUnion to this list as well. Arguably in the conversation of “best LB” in #MLS. Sands is another one where his play has gone unnoticed and his introduction to the 3 back system helped “change” #NYCFC. #MLS https://t.co/QQh4mD3VX4— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) May 24, 2019
So Kante coming from the 7th/8th division of 🇫🇷 means what about EPL then?! Not sure there is a direct correlation with your analysis because sometime players go “unnoticed” until the right situation but doesn’t mean it’s an indictment of that particular league. https://t.co/pa58Rp4laX— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) May 24, 2019
