Much like the Boys in Blue, Philadelphia Union's Heroes squad was victorious on FIFA20, besting Major League Soccer's All-Star Team by a 4-3 margin.
Dubbed "Heroes and All-Stars" the event was part of the Union’s “FIGHT FOR PHILLY” platform that will provide thousands of pieces of Personal Protective Equipment and meals to local workers on the front lines of the covid-19 pandemic while highlighting members of the Philadelphia community selflessly working to help others in a difficult time. The roster featured customized likenesses of 18 front-line workers who are protecting the Philadelphia region with work stretching from medical personnel to law enforcement. Each member of the roster was nominated to appear by someone local who felt they were going above and beyond on behalf of the Philly community.
Family physician Peter Edde made the most of his Union debut, collecting a brace including the game-winning goal in the waining moments of the match. Edde pushed the Union ahead late, heading home a perfectly served corner kick provided by pulmonologist Sarah Orfanes.
Philadelphia's heroes came out on the front foot, grabbing an early lead after physical therapist Ali Sweeterman was fouled in the box. Local nurse Heidi Huizenga made it 1-0, converting from the penalty spot by freezing goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
Sweeterman made it 2-0 for the Heroes squad, finishing off a pass from Eddie.
Leading by two at the halftime break, Edde make it 3-0 in the 57th minute after a great combination of passing from Sweeterman and Jenna Schultz, a nurse at UPenn. While the MLS All-Stars battled back with three-straight goals, the virtual fans in attendance and watching all over the world via the Union social media platforms were left seeing the Philadelphia heroes finish ahead.
