Philadelphia Union & American Red Cross Host Blood Drive At Subaru Park
In partnership with Bimbo Bakeries USA and Anheuser-Busch, Subaru Park safely collected more than 70 pints of blood from volunteer donors
CHESTER, PA (May 8, 2020) – As blood supply remains in high demand during the pandemic, Philadelphia Union and the American Red Cross collected enough blood to potentially help over 200 patients in need at a blood drive on Thursday, May 7, held in the Stadium Club at Subaru Park.
With additional support from Bimbo Bakeries USA and Anheuser-Busch, who donated baked goods and beverages, the American Red Cross collected 77 pints of blood that can be used to help up to 231 patients. The Union and American Red Cross followed all safety protocols during the drive including having all staff and volunteer donors wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
“As our Fight For Philly initiative progresses, we continue to look for more ways to give back to our community and contribute to local relief efforts during this time,” said Philadelphia Union President, Tim McDermott. “The need for a steady blood supply in our nation is at an all-time high as it becomes increasingly difficult to find spaces to safely donate. We are grateful to partner with the American Red Cross to safely collect donations to give to those in need in our community. We want to thank our fans and community members who came out to donate on Thursday. Your donation could save a life and we are proud to have you as part of our Union family.”

With the COVID-19 outbreak, shortages and availability of the nation’s blood supply has become a top concern. Due to safety measures put in place due to the coronavirus, thousands of blood drives have been canceled across the country in order to avoid public gatherings. The sudden decrease in blood donations has potential to impact patients across the country with life-threatening ailments.
