Przybylko named MLS Player of the Week

When two of your three goals in a busy week are game winners, it's hard to top and no one could this past week as Philadelphia Union forward Kacper Przybylko has been named the MLS Player of the Week.

Playing 154 minutes atop the Union lineup, the forward began his week with his second goal of 2020 in the 31st minute with a perfectly timed run to finish off a cross from Ray Gaddis. After going the full 90 minutes in the week's first rivalry contest, Przybylko came out flying with two goals against D.C. United inside the game's first 16 minutes. Finding the back of the net wasn't enough for the forward as he added an assist in the second half with a perfectly threaded pass to Brenden Aaronson.

The accolade comes in addition to being named to the MLS Team of the Week earlier on Monday. Przybylko's goals at Subaru Park were historic as he became the first player in club history to score in six-consecutive appearances at Subaru Park with his streak dating back to August 2019. Pryzyblko's brace against D.C. United not only saw him one goal shy of joining the 20-goal club but made him the ninth player in Union history to record two goals in a game at least twice in his career.

With four regular season goals this season, Przybylko is tied for seventh in the race for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi. Philadelphia is undefeated in its last seven MLS regular season matches and sits in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with 15 points (4-1-3 overall record).

This is the first MLS Player of the Week award for Przybylko, who joins a group of 12 different players in Union history to earn the recognition. The full list of Union POTW award winners is as follows: Sebastien Le Toux (2010 [2x]), Justin Mapp (2011), Jack McInerney (2013), Chris Pontius (2016), Roland Alberg (2016), Ilsinho (2016, 2019), CJ Sapong (2017), Borek Dockal (2018), Jay Simpson (2018), David Accam (2019) and Alejandro Bedoya (2019).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75% of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25% of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
