Homegrowns Abroad: Aaronson and McKenzie make European debuts

Former Philadelphia Union homegrowns Brenden Aaronson and Mark McKenzie both celebrated their European debuts on Sunday morning with McKenzie starting for K.R.C. Genk while Aaronson entered for FC Red Bull Salzburg in the second half.


After settling into his new club and teammates, McKenzie earned the start for Genk as they were to on the road at league-leading Club Brugge. Genk jumped out to a 2-1 lead at the break but the league-leaders answered with a pair of goals in a 12-minute span to claim a 3-2 home win over McKenzie.

Meanwhile in Austria, Brenden Aaronson's FC Red Bull Salzburg hosted SCR Altach for their first league match of the new year. After impressing in last week's scrimmage where he notched a goal, Aaronson's debut came in the 62nd minute wearing the Navy and Yellow. Aaronson brought some good luck to the pitch as seconds after taking to the grounds, FC Red Bull Salzburg doubled their lead to collect a 2-0 victory.
