Philadelphia Union II announced today that they are set to play a match against esteemed National League champions and the subject of hit show “Welcome to Wrexham” Wrexham AFC on Friday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Subaru Park.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Wrexham AFC to Subaru Park,” said President of the Philadelphia Union, Tim McDermott. “They have successfully captured a worldwide audience with their National League title and subsequent promotion to EFL League Two. We look forward to an exciting match and the opportunity it brings for Philadelphia Union II to showcase their talent. It will be such a great experience for fans to witness the clash between these two clubs and see the skills on display.”

"We're looking forward to our tour to America in the summer,” said Wrexham AFC Manager, Phil Parkinson. “The club has had a small taste of the support we have over there, and it will be great to take our first-team players over to see that support firsthand. The matches scheduled will be a good warm-up for our first season back in the EFL, and we’re looking forward to visiting Philadelphia, the home of our co-chairman, Rob McElhenney, for what promises to be a competitive game and a terrific ending to our summer tour.”

Wrexham AFC, co-owned by Philly native Rob McElhenney and Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, was founded in 1864, making them the third-oldest professional association football club in the world. In their own Cinderella story, the club achieved promotion to League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system, by clinching the National League title with a resounding 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood. This promotion marks Wrexham AFC's return to League Two after a gap since the 2007-08 season.

Bringing a bit of Hollywood to Subaru Park, Wrexham AFC's journey has not only inspired soccer fans but has also captured the attention of a global audience. The club's significant rise to prominence has been commemorated in the critically acclaimed documentary "Welcome to Wrexham." The film won not only won the Best Sports Documentary award, but also earned a nomination for Best Ongoing Documentary Series at the 7th Critics' Choice Documentary Awards.
