Preview | Union II seeks revenge on trip to CT United FC

Philadelphia Union II wraps up its April slate of games away from home as it faces off against CT United FC for the second time in 2026 on Sunday afternoon.

The Boys in Blue are coming off just their second loss of the season, a 1-0 setback to Toronto FC II on April 17. The contest between the two sides saw limited chances from both teams, with the game decided on an unfortunate deflection off a Philadelphia defender that resulted in an own goal.

Head Coach Ryan Richter's side will once again be challenged by a congested competition schedule, with the first team in the midst of a three-games-in-eight-days stretch and the Union Academy U-18s competing at MLS NEXT Flex in Texas. With limited options to select from, Sunday’s match will provide plenty of opportunities for those available to showcase what they can do when called upon.

There is no better way to make a statement than by getting a result against a CT United FC side that ended Union II’s unbeaten start to the MLS NEXT Pro season on March 15. Facing a lineup that averaged three years older per player, Union II went into halftime with the lead thanks to a first-half goal from Malik Jakupovic. The visitors responded in the second half, with Laurie Goddard scoring in the 57th minute to level the match and become the first player to find the back of the net against Union II that season.

Shortly after the match was leveled, Union II was reduced to 10 men when Oscar Benitez was sent off for a second yellow card. The extra man proved decisive in the 86th minute, as Dylan Lacy delivered a long ball forward that set up Barnabas Tanyi for the go-ahead goal.

Since that mid-March win at Subaru Park, the Connecticut side has dropped three consecutive matches. Over that stretch, the squad has scored just twice while conceding seven goals in losses to New England Revolution II, Columbus Crew 2, and NYCFC II. The run of form has the new franchise sitting in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, while Union II enters the weekend in fifth.

The two sides will meet on Sunday afternoon, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. ET. Fans can catch all the action live on MLSNEXTPro.com and OneFootball.
