Philadelphia Union II faced off against CT United FC on Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium, earning all three points after a 2-1 win.
In the first half, CT United FC opened up the scoring in the 19th minute when Cauã Paixão found the back of the net off an assist from Alex Monis to give them an early 1-0 advantage. Following the opening goal, Connecticut continued to generate chances, but Union II goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook had several key saves to keep the deficit at one. Union II responded with increased pressure as the first half progressed, and the persistence paid off in the 37th minute when forward Eddy Davis III leveled the match. Davis III received a pass from Stas Korzeniowski, with midfielder Mamoutou Berthé also involved in the action, and struck from outside the box, netting a left-footed shot into the top right corner.
Union II opened the second half and continued to display attacking threats. In the 54th, Union II came close to taking the lead when forward Stas Korzeniowski hit the left post from inside the box. In the 62nd minute, Korzeniowski found a breakthrough goal for Union II, finishing with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner to give Union II the 2-1 lead, assisted by Mamoutou Berthé.
CT United FC pushed for a late equalizer in the second half, creating multiple chances. Union II’s defense stood strong, blocking several shots in quick succession in the 74th and 75th minute, and again in the 88th minute and 89th minute to hold onto their lead. Union II continued to keep their composure through four minutes of stoppage time to secure a 2-1 victory and claim all three points on the road.
