After leading Philadelphia Union II to an unbeaten June, Head Coach Ryan Richter has been named the MLS NEXT Pro Coach of the Month.
June saw Union II pick up 11 points in five league matches as the young squad battled back after suffering its first and only loss of the regular season in their May finale. The results are even more impressive when you take a look at the player availability for many of the games with Richter and his staff having to play games with only three or four substitute field players earlier in the month.
While Union II might not have had as many players dressed as the opposition, they didn't change their intense style of play with 13 goals scored including 10 in their three wins to open the month. During June, Richter saw Academy products turned professionals Malik Jakupovic and Willyam Ferreira make their league debuts with Jakupovic scoring late against FC Cincinnat 2.
Union II currently sits third in the Eastern Conference with a five-game unbeaten streak as they prepare for a July slate of matches that kicks off on Sunday afternoon against Toronto FC II. Kick off from Subaru Park is set for 3PM with tickets for the game available or by watching on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
