A busy weekend wrapped up for the Philadelphia Union Academy’s U13 and U14 on Sunday as they faced off against the Cedar Stars Academy of Monmouth in MLS NEXT action.
After picking up a win the previous day, the U13’s came away with another dominating performance walking away with a 4-0 victory. Jordan Griffin was the man of the match netting himself a hat trick, while Gunnar Graham scored once more on the weekend to continue the unbeaten streak.
Meanwhile the U14’s second match of the weekend against Cedar Stars was a much closer affair with the Union coming away with a 2-0 victory. In a game that featured a lot of back and forth in the midfield, the Union trio of Cavan Sullivan, Kellan LeBlanc, and Anthony Washington proved to be too much in the attacking third. Sullivan and LeBlanc provided the two goals on the day. Meanwhile excellent play from the defensive line and the goalkeeper led to another shut out on the year for this group.
The Philadelphia Union Academy U12 squad took their toughest defeat of the year against the New York Red Bulls this past weekend. The boys came out strong in the first 15 minutes taking a 1-0 lead before falling behind 3-1 heading into the half. They again opened the second half strong scoring just eight minutes in which cut the lead to one goal. However, then the Red Bulls turned it on and never looked back scoring five goals unanswered leading to the 8-2 loss for the Union.
The U13 and U14 group will both take on the New York Red Bulls on the road Saturday. Meanwhile the U12’s will look to rebound on November 14th when they host FC Delco.
