Philadelphia Union Academy announced today that goalkeeper Matthew White has been selected to join the U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team Domestic Identity Training Camps during the September FIFA window.
White is one of two Academy players called-up the U.S. this window, with forward Jamir Johnson having been selected for the U.S. U-17 squad that will play a pair of friendly matches against the Netherlands on Sept. 5 and Sept. 8 at Gemeentelijk Sportpark SJC in Noordwijk, Netherlands. Both matches will kick off at 7 p.m. local time (1 p.m. ET).
The goalkeeper joins a record-breaking nine U.S. Soccer selections from the Union organziation with White part of the group that includes the first team's Eddy Davis III, Sal Olivas, Neil Pierre, Andrew Rick, Cavan Sullivan, Frankie Westfield as well as Union II's Malik Jakupovic, Kellan LeBlanc, Kaiden Moore and Johnson from the Union Academy.
The camp is a part of the Federation’s continued focus on the U.S. Way philosophy, which emphasizes increased programming for Youth National Teams to create more opportunities for young players to advance through the pathway to the senior National Team with the goal of representing their country at a world championship.
The U-17's will train concurrently with the U-19s from Sept. 1-8 at McCurry Park in Fayetteville, Ga.
