GA Cup | Union Academy keeps rolling with shutout wins

Philadelphia Union Academy continues to rack up shutouts as both the U15s and U17s dominated their opposition in the second day of Group Stage action at the 2023 Generation adidas Cup in Florida.

It was some deja vu for the U15s as they picked up a 2-0 win for the second straight day. Facing off against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday morning, the squad racked up its second-consecutive clean sheet to extend its lead in the standings with one match to play.

Nehan Hasan opened the scoring in the first half for the Boys in Blue, making a smooth finish to put visitors on the back foot. With the match still in the balance, Gabriel Wesseh doubled the Union lead for the insurance goal to propel the Union to a perfect 2-0-0 record in the Group Stage.

The U17s also mproved to 2-0 in Group Stage action at the 2023 Generation adidas Cup via a 2-0 win against Minnesota United on Sunday afternoon in Florida. For the second consecutive matchday the Boys in Blue racked up a perfect defensive performance to earn a clean sheet with smothering pressure to limit any chances on goal from the opposition. With chances limited by both sides, the opening and eventual game-winning goal came Edward Davis in the first half. In the final 30-minute period the Union put the match out of reach with a finish from Diego Rocio that puts the Union on the verge of a perfect Group Stage run with a match to play tomorrow evening.

Both teams conclude their Group Stage action on Monday afternoon with the U17s facing off against tournament hosts IMG Academy starting at 4:30 p.m. ET while the U15s take on Spanish side Valencia C.F. at 5 p.m. ET.
