Philadelphia Union’s U-16s punched their ticket to the Generation adidas Cup Round of 16 on Sunday, closing out group play with a statement result as the U-15s shifted to showcase play.
The Union Academy U-16s earned a decisive 2-0 victory over CF Monterrey on Sunday evening to advance to the Generation adidas Cup Round of 16.
Samuel Gallego opened the scoring in style, delivering a golazo from a free kick to give Philadelphia the early advantage.
Timoni Gbalajobi added the insurance goal in the second half, as the Baby Snakes controlled the match to secure their place in the knockout rounds.
With the result, the U-16s move on to the Round of 16 as their tournament run continues. The full tournament bracket will be announced by MLS NEXT shortly.
The Philadelphia Union U-15s closed out group play on Sunday against French side Toulouse FC, falling 2-0 in their final Group G match.
Toulouse capitalized on their opportunities to secure the result, while Philadelphia was unable to find a breakthrough despite their efforts going forward.
With group play complete, the U-15s now turn their attention to showcase matches at the 2026 Generation adidas Cup.
