The Philadelphia Union enjoyed another special weekend at Subaru Park, this time both on and off the field, as the club celebrated their annual Kick Childhood Cancer match on Saturday afternoon.
Every day, about 43 children are diagnosed with cancer, and in honor and support of those whose lives have been impacted by the disease, the team partnered with Kisses for Kyle to select a class courageous children to enjoy a weekend with the Philadelphia Union as part of the Fearless 43.
The festivities kicked off on Friday evening with a carnival-themed celebration at Union Yards, where kids undergoing or having completed pediatric cancer treatment and their families spent time together playing games, checking out the petting zoo, jumping in bounce houses, and more.
The following afternoon, the Fearless 43 and their families took part in a pregame tailgate before heading into the team’s match against New England Revolution. The weekend festivities culiminated with a surprise at halftime, when the packed stadium showed their love for the courageous kids by waving Kick Childhood Cancer flags and blowing bubbles from the stands down to the field, where they were standing to be recognized. The Sons of Ben even hoisted a special Fearless 43 tifo to show their support.
The Boys in Blue pulled off an important 1-0 win by way of a 70th minute goal from Bruno Damiani, and after the final whistle, the players celebrated their win Fearless 43 on the pitch.
