Philadelphia Union is back in action on Sunday night as they make the trip south on I-95 to face rival D.C. United on May 23rd. Kick off from Audi Field is set for 7 p.m. ET with television coverage on PHL17. Fans will also be able to view the match on PhiladelphiaUnion.com or can click here to listen to the FOX The Gambler broadcast which is available via 102.5 FM, 104.5 HD2, the iHeart App and 1480 AM.
The Boys in Blue conclude their May road slate looking to extend a four-match unbeaten streak across MLS and Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League play. The Union claimed all three points at home against the New York Red Bulls last Saturday with Cory Burke scoring his second goal in three matches for the 1-0 win.
The Union have owned the I-95 rivalry for the last few years with the Union taking points in eight-consecutive league contests dating back to 2017. The two rivals met twice in 2020 with the Union racking a up 4-1 win at home and then getting a late goal on the road in D.C. for a 2-2 draw. Both sides met up late in the preseason at Subaru Park with homegrown Anthony Fontana netting a brace in the 2-0 win.
D.C. United is off to a 2-4 start under the direction new Head Coach Hernan Losada after falling 1-0 to Orlando City SC last week. The Black-and-Red have scored only five goals so far this season with their season-opening win against New York City FC being the only time they’ve scored multiple goals. All five goals have come from different players for D.C. with Edison Flores notching the game-winner in the seventh minute against Chicago Fire FC two weeks ago.
