Philadelphia Union returns home this weekend to take on Minnesota United FC after a three match away slate between Concacaf Champions Cup and Major League Soccer regular season play. On Saturday, the team will be back at Subaru Park for the first time since March 9th, when their match against Seattle Sounders was postponed less than ten minutes after first kick due to weather.

With an undermanned win against Portland Timbers on the road fresh in their minds, Philadelphia Union has a chance to extend their win streak to two against another Western Conference opponent. The loons will make the East Coast trip for a midday matchup between two teams that haven’t lost a game yet – Minnesota have claimed three wins and a draw since the start of their season.

They’ve had just one similar opponent in Austin FC in their season opener on the road, winning 2-1 courtesy of goals from midfielders Robin Lod and Alejandro Bran. It’s been a promising start for Head Coach Eric Ramsay’s offense, which has totaled eight goals over four games shared between five different goal scorers. Lod, forward Teemu Pukki, and forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane are even at two goals a piece in the team’s internal golden boot race, with Pukki taking the most chances so far with 10 shots.

For their Matchday 6 head-to-head against LAFC, Minnesota was without six players due to international duty while Philadelphia was without eight, but both teams were able to pull out a win in the face of adversity. Head Coach Jim Curtin’s roster has since been reinforced by the return of his steadfast net protector Andre Blake, one of the team’s front three designated players in Daniel Gazdag, two American Homegrowns in Nate Harriel and Jack McGlynn, two Venezuelan midfielders in José Martinez and Jesus Bueno, plus Jamaican centerback Damion Lowe. It is unclear what group he’ll choose to send out in front of Union faithful, but what is certain is that the team is back in tact for the challenge ahead.

Their last two meetings finished in draws, with their most recent matchup May 2023 ending in a 3-3 scoreline. The Union holds the advantage in the all-time series, which sits at 2 wins, a draw, and a loss.
