Philadelphia Union are on the road again this week, this time for a two-game away trip starting with a midweek matchup against Toronto FC. The action begins at 7:30PM with coverage on Apple TV!
After a scoreless draw at home against D.C. United on Saturday night, the Union have an opportunity to quickly turn the page across the Northern border.
Wednesday’s hosts are sixth in the East, in part thanks to a six-match unbeaten run recently extended by a 3-3 draw against Western Conference side Austin FC on Saturday.
It was a back-and-forth affair on Toronto’s home pitch, but ultimately an 88th-minute goal from Kobe Franklin leveled the match for their 12th point of the year. With his equalizer, the 22-year-old Canadian became his team’s 8th goalscorer of the season – only two Toronto players, Dániel Sallói and Richie Laryea, have scored more than once, totaling five of the team’s 13 goals. A player that the Boys in Blue will have to keep an eye on is 26-year-old forward Josh Sargent, who signed with the club as a Desginated Player on a transfer from Championship side Norwich City in late February. Since his arrival north of the border, the forward has played just over 300 minutes with a goal and an assist.
Opponent aside, Philly’s focus is adding points. They are currently tied for least in the league with four, one of which came from their recent 0-0- draw. While the team fell just short of their first home win of 2026, they did secure their first clean sheet of the year - -another important milestone as the team continues to take steps in the right direction.
“That's really important. You secure one point, at least, if you keep a clean sheet, and we’ve been struggling with that during the season. So, I'm really pleased we managed to do that,” said centerback Japhet Sery Larsen after the match.
“We have to build from here. We know how much quality we have within the squad, so we’ve got to show it. It's up to us. It doesn't come easy right now. We have to dig hard and dig deep to get the points. We’re quite lucky that there’s already a new game on Wednesday.”
The midweek match brings about another opportunity for points, and another tough test for the team in a difficult place to play. Last season, it took a two-goal comeback effort in the final moments of the match from Nate Harriel and Kai Wagner to secure their first road victory against Toronto since May 11, 2019.
This week also marks one of the team’s most congested this year, playing again on Saturday against Columbus Crew in Ohio.
