Recap | Philadelphia defeat LA Galaxy 3-2 with a late winner

Match Recap (2)

Three unanswered second half goals and a determined effort lifted Philadelphia Union to a 3-2 win against LA Galaxy on Wednesday night in front of Union faithful. With the result, Philadelphia Union extended their MLS unbeaten streak to five games straight before heading on the road to take on Atlanta United this weekend.

How The Match Unfolded

Head Coach Bradley Carnell used the same lineup for a second straight match, sending out an identical group to the one that started the team's 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew on Saturday.

In net, Homegrown keeper Andrew Rick made his 10th MLS start, stepping in once again for three time Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake, who's been sidelined due to injury. Protecting Rick, Carnell crafted a backline featuring Kai Wagner and Frankie Westfield as outside backs plus Jakob Glesnes and Nate Harriel as the centerback pairing.

Jovan Lukic, Indiana Vassilev, Danley Jean Jacques, and Quinn Sullivan made up the midfield while Tai Baribo and Bruno Damiani were the attacking duo up top.

31', Galaxy goal | It was a misty scoreless opening 30 minutes at Subaru Park on Wednesday night, and while Philadelphia Union took five shots to Galaxy’s one, it was the visitors who found the first of the match, hitting the back of the net in the 31st minute. Galaxy's Lucas Sanabaria took the ball from Danley Jean Jacques near midfield, sending it foward to Marco Reus, who dribbled it up the left sideline before spotting Mauricio Cuevas open in front of the net.

37', Galaxy gets another | Marco Reus tallied another assist on the night, finding Diego Fagúndez for Galaxy's second, doubling their lead six minutes after they opened scoring.

42, Near header from Damiani | The Union nearly got one back in the 42nd minute when Kai Wagner's corner found Bruno Damiani for a header to the right corner, but former Union keeper John McCarthy made the stop to keep the match 2-0.

48', Harriel makes it 2-1! | Philadelphia Union emerged from the locker room with both a deficit and determination, but the former didn't last long as Nate Harriel found the Union's first of the night in the 48th minute, deflecting the ball into the net with his foot from a Glesnes header.

50th, Baribo levels it! | Two minutes later, Tai Baribo added another for the Boys in Blue, heading it past McCarthy off a pass from Danley for his ninth goal of the 2025 season.

58', Union subs | Head Coach Bradley Carnell made his first changes of the match in the 58th minute, sending out Alejandro Bedoya and Mikael Uhre in place of Quinn Sullivan and Bruno Damiani.

85', More Union subs | Carnell opted for fresh legs in the 85th minute, replacing Indiana Vassilev and Frankie Westfield with Cavan Sullivan and Olwethu Makhanya.

90+6', Baribo wins it! | In the 96th minute, Baribo scored his 10th goal of the season, securing the win and reclaiming his spot at the top of the MLS Golden Boot race.
