Philadelphia Union had plenty to celebrate Wednesday night, officially securing a spot in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs before shutting out record-chasing Supporters’ Shield winners Nashville SC in a 0-0 draw at GEODIS Park.
Philadelphia Union faced one of their toughest road tests of the season Wednesday night, taking on Supporters’ Shield winners Nashville SC at GEODIS Park. Nashville entered the match continuing its pursuit of the MLS single-season points record, adding another layer of importance to the midweek showdown.
The Boys in Blue remained organized throughout a tightly contested opening half, limiting Nashville’s opportunities while looking for a breakthrough of their own. The Union attack featured Homegrown forward Malik Jakupovic making his first MLS start, but neither side could find the opening goal before heading into the locker room scoreless.
While Philadelphia battled in Music City, its place in the postseason became official. In a fitting twist, former Union midfielder and club all-time leading scorer Dániel Gazdag scored the late game-winner for New England as the Revolution defeated Red Bull New York, officially securing the Union’s 10th postseason appearance in club history and eighth in the last nine seasons.
Philadelphia faced an even tougher challenge after the break as Nashville turned to leading scorers Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge off the bench in search of a breakthrough. Despite the added firepower and Nashville’s push toward MLS history, the Union remained disciplined through the final whistle, keeping the Supporters’ Shield winners off the scoresheet and earning a hard-fought road point.
The Union remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Ohio for a Halloween matinee against FC Cincinnati on Saturday, October 31. Kickoff from TQL Stadium is set for 2 p.m. ET with coverage on Apple TV.
