Scouting the Schedule | Push for the Playoffs

Just before the holiday break, Philadelphia Union learned its entire 2023 MLS Schedule after the league announced it on Tuesday. MLS fans can watch every 2023 league match on AppleTV MLS Season Pass. No blackouts. No restrictions.

We are taking a deep dive into each month of the season to look at each of the matchups! Today we're focused on the Union's final month of the schedule as the Boys in Blue wrap up October with a pair of home contests before a Decision Day battle on the road.

PHI v Atlanta United FC
Wed., October 4 | 7:30PM ET

October starts off at Subaru Park with a midweek battle against Atlanta United on Wednesday, October 4th.

The Five Stripes will look quite different from the squad that Boys in Blue encountered in 2022 with Josef Martinez expected to be departing the club during this offseason. The two sides battled twice this past season with the Union grabbing four points from the two contests highlighted by a 4-1 win that saw goals from all three members of the Union’s attacking trio plus a 95th minute goal from homegrown Nathan Harriel. Atlanta missed the MLS Cup Playoffs for the second-straight season in 2022 and are expected to rebound and rebuild with Miles Robinson and Brad Guzan fully healthy in 2023.

PHI v Nashville SC
Sat., October 7 | 7:30PM ET

The final regular season home contest sees the Union battle Nashville SC on Saturday, October 7th.

After playing in the Western Conference in 2022, Nashville SC is back in the East again which will set up a battle of two MVP-caliber midfielders in Daniel Gazdag vs. the reigning Landon Donovan MVP Hany Mukhtar. While Nashville SC has only been in MLS since 2020, the matchups between the two sides have been quite memorable with the Union getting to their first Eastern Conference Final in 2021 via a penalty kick win. Last year the two teams met in the opener of GEODIS Park where Andre Blake put on a show with key first-half saves which mean the first goal in Nashville’s new stadium came from Philly’s Mikael Uhre.

PHI @ New England Revolution
Sat., October 21 | TBD

2023 Decision Day takes place on Saturday, October 21st with the Union taking on the New England Revolution.

After winning the Supporters’ Shield in 2021, New England struggled to meets lofty expectations last year with Bruce Arena’s side sitting on the wrong side of the postseason line. Six points out of the East, the Revolution nabbed only one point against the Union last year with the two sides battling two a 1-1 draw in Foxborough before the Boys in Blue racked up a 2-1 home win at Subaru Park in July behind goals from Mikael Uhre and Daniel Gazdag in the second half.
