Union family unites

PPL Park corner

Thursday’s game with D.C. United at PPL Park will mark the start of a special period for everyone in the Philadelphia Union family as the club and supporters join forces to benefit a number of good causes.

The club will use the high-profile of its I-95 rivalry game with United, kicking off at 8pm live on ESPN2 and 610WIP, as an awareness night for pediatric cancer, highlighting organizations including Go4theGoal which supports children battling the illness.

A lively atmosphere is expected for Thursday’s crunch game which is designated as a College Night; the region’s colleges encouraged to attend to show Philadelphia – and the nation’s TV viewers – just who has the noisiest fans, with everyone enjoying the taste of Dietz and Watson dogs for just $1 each.

With limited numbers of tickets remaining, supporters can reserve theirs – starting at just $25 –by calling 1-877-21-UNION (press ‘1’ for ticketing), clicking here or in person at the PPL Park Box Office.

As an added bonus, the game is presented by Independence Blue Cross and the first 5,000 fans through the gates will each receive an exclusive Union print.

The club will then kick off its third annual Blood Drive on Saturday in association with the American Red Cross. The event has been an overwhelming success over the last two years, with the admirable efforts of Union supporters saving thousands of lives.

Those wishing to give blood can find out about eligibility and register by clicking here or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, with a choice between this Saturday and next Saturday in the PPL Park Stadium Club (6am-4pm ET). Each donor will receive a commemorative 2012 scarf and T-shirt, as well as a coupon from Dunkin’ Donuts.

The Union will return to MLS action – and raising awareness – at PPL Park less than 24 hours after the first Blood Drive session as last season’s Eastern Conference winners Houston Dynamo face off against John Hackworth’s team at 4pm ET on Sunday (live on 6abc).

Match day will this time be geared towards Ovarian Cancer Awareness Night, bringing the hard work of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation to the fore.

Group tickets of 15 or more can be purchased by contacting Anthony Cardillo at 610-497-8934 or via acardillo@philadelphiaunion.com. To purchase fewer than 15, supporters can click here and enter promo code ‘TEAL’.

To game will be presented by Crozer-Keystone & Premier Orthopaedics, with the first 5,000 children aged 15 and under to pass through the gates on Sunday also receiving an extra special item – an exclusive Zac MacMath growth chart.
