Despite facing a newcomer to the knockout stage of the Concacaf Gold Cup, the U.S. Men's National Team had a tough fight in Philadelphia but found enough offense from a first-half goal to advance to the semifinals of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
Head coach Gregg Berhalter returned to a fresh starting XI that had a week off and it paid early dividends as Christian Pulisic made a strong run and found Weston McKennie for the match's only goal.
While Pulisic created a few more chances in search of an insurance goal, Curacao battled in the second half and outshot the Stars and Stripes by a 15-10 margin (5-3 on target), while also slightly edging possession. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen was tested in the 84th minute, having to deny a long-range effort with a spectacular stop.
The United States battles Jamaica on Wednesday night in Nashville for a spot in the Gold Cup Final. Kick off from LP Field is set for 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FS1.
