After helping guide Haiti to the FIFA World Cup, Philadelphia Union midfielder Danley Jean Jacque's country was drawn into Group C for the 2026 event next summer.
The team will face off against South American giants Brazil as well as Morocco and Scotland. Under the direction of new coach Carlo Ancelotti led Brazil to a 1-0 win over Paraguay in June to maintain the nation's their remarkable record of having played at every edition of the World Cup. Scotland secured their first World Cup return since 1998 in the most dramatic fashion possible, defeating Denmark 4-2 in their final qualifier thanks to two goals in added time to leapfrog the Danes at the top of Group C and send Hampden Park into raptures. Morocco, who made history for Africa at Qatar 2022, were the first team from the Continent to reach the 2026 showpiece with an emphatic 5-0 win over Niger in September.
Haiti earned their spot in the tournament via CONCACAF Qualifers, topping Group C to secure Les Grenadiers second ever World Cup appearance. The qualification ends a 51-year drought after the nation last participated at Germany 1974. Just like he is for Philly, Danley is an important piece of Haiti’s team, tallying six goals and three assists in 26 international appearances.
Should Danley be selected for the final roster, he’d become the second active Union player to be named to a World Cup roster joining teammate Olivier Mbaizo who was on Cameroon's 2022 World Cup roster.
