Philadelphia Union II saw its run end in the first week of the USL eCup: FIFA20 edition come to an end Wednesday night, falling to New York Red Bulls II by a 3-2 margin.

Union II midfielder Zach Zandi returned to the virtual pitch with Spain and jumped out to a strong start with the opening goal from Rodrigo in the 40th minute. Union II doubled its lead just before the halftime whistle with a curling shot from Isco to make it 2-0 at the break.

Red Bulls II midfielder Ben Mines made several adjustments at the halftime and stole momentum with an all-out attack that counter pressed any loss of possession. With the clock counting down, the Chilean national team struck for the equalizing goals in the 56th and 88th minute. Extra time looked destined once again but Union II's opponent scrapped together a goal at the death to advance to the quarterfinals.

Philadelphia Union II now awaits its schedule for the first round of league play, having secured a spot in League B of the competition. For more information on the USL eCup: FIFA20 Edition, click here.
