PITTSBURGH, Pa. (August 1, 2020) â€“ The Philadelphia Union II was on the road Saturday night falling to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 4-0. The first half was controlled by Pittsburgh who went into halftime with a 3-0 lead. Union II played well in the second half, outshooting the Riverhounds eight to one, but it would not be enough to get Philadelphia back in the match. Union II is back at home Wednesday, August 5 hosting New York Red Bulls II at Subaru Park (7:30 p.m. ET/ESPN+).

TEAM NOTES:
Youth is a common theme for Union II and it was on full display in tonight’s match against Pittsburgh. The average age of the starting Xl against the Riverhounds was just 17.8-years old. After Union II made its five substitution the overall age of the 16 players to take the field dropped to 17.5.


The oldest player on the pitch was 20-year old defender Jamoi Topey, who earned the captain’s armband for the first time this season. Six 16-year old players saw action in tonight’s match in Brandan Craig, Quinn Sullivan, Anton Sorenson, Paxten Aaronson, Jack Jasinski and Patrick Bohui.


Academy players Brandan Craig and Quinn Sullivan made their first-ever USL Championship starts. It was also the USL Championship debut for defender Anton Sorensen who took two shots, completed 78.6% of his passes and won two tackles in 45 minutes of action.

In a side that has seen rotation in the starting Xl, defenders Ben Ofeimu and Dante Huckaby have been mainstays. The two have started all five matches and played all 450 minutes of the 2020 season.
