Opponent Scout: New York Red Bulls

It has been a long 310 days, but Philadelphia Union are finally returning home to open the 2020 season at Subaru Park. The last time the Union were at home it was an historic afternoon, defeating New York Red Bulls in one of the wildest game in club history. Both sides now return to Subaru Park on Tuesday night for an intense rematch that will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on PHL17 and PhiladelphiaUnion.com.

The Union came out a little slower than was seen at the MLS is Back Tournament with a scoreless draw on the road in New England. The match was different any many aspect one of which being the new same day travel protocol which might have taken a toll on the guys. Despite that the centerback pairing of Mark McKenzie and Jack Elliott’s coupled with Andre Blake in goal kept the Revs scoreless and added another point and shutout to the Union’s record. Philadelphia has proven to be very dynamic in their goal scoring abilities with the first seven regular season goals having been scored by seven different players. The Union will be happy to be back home and Super Sub Ilsinho will hopefully get back to his old Red Bull ankle-breaking, sabotaging ways.

After losing Luis Robles to Inter Miami CF and Bradley Wright-Phillips to LAFC in the offseason, New York knew they had some big shoes to fill coming in to 2020. Quite surprisingly, they are currently sit near the top of the Eastern Conference with 10 points and a 3-2-1 record with Philly right on their tails with 9 points. Defender Kyle Duncan has been a reliable source of production with 2 goals and 2 assists this season and although he seemed to have slowed down in the MLS is Back Tournament, he is still threat in the box proving that by picking up the game-winning goal in their last match against NYCFC. The Red Bulls will likely take this match personal and look for revenge after the bitter season-ending defeat on October 20, 2019 the last time they played the Union.

Players to Watch
Ilsinho: The Red Bulls just hate to see this guy on the field.

Aaron Long: With goal scoring threats spread out across the pitch, Long and his defense will have their work cut out for them.
