Union II battles hard but falls to Columbus Crew 2, 1-0

Philadelphia Union II returned home for MLS Next Pro action Sunday, falling 1-0 to Columbus Crew 2. Jacen Russel-Rowe broke the scoring in the 56th minute for the match’s lone goal.

After a back and forth first half that saw no clear-cut chances for either team, Alexandru Irinel Matan was able to earn the byline for Crew 2 and deliver a floated back post ball to an unmarked Russel-Rowe early in the second half who broke the deadlock.

In a match that had striking similarities to the two side’s first team match less than 24 hours prior, this match saw the visiting reserve team take home all three points.

Philadelphia Union centerback Stuart Findlay saw his first action of the season and manned his position at left centerback well. Juan Perdomo saw some action as well, entering the match in the 67th minute for Jesus Bueno, while rightback Jackson Gilman earned his third start for Union II this season.

Despite some good chances during the final stretch of the game, Union II was unable to find a late game equalizer.
