Philadelphia Union Youth Coaches Support Launch of Soccer in Schools Initiative

The launch of the Philadelphia Union's Soccer in Schools initiative marked a significant milestone in the club's commitment to growing the game throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. As part of the club's World Cup legacy efforts, the initiative will provide schools with curriculum resources, educator training, equipment, and opportunities for students to engage with the game.

When students at Thomas Holme Elementary School took part in a day filled with soccer activities, learning, and excitement, Philadelphia Union Youth coaches were honored to play a meaningful role in helping bring the event to life.
"It was really special to see how excited the kids were," said Coach Lucas Milazzo. "You could see their confidence grow as the day went on, and that's one of the best parts of coaching."

Throughout the event, Union Youth coaches led soccer activities, skill stations, small-sided games, and interactive challenges, keeping students engaged from start to finish. Whether a child was playing soccer for the first time or already loved the game, the coaches made sure everyone felt included.

For the coaching staff, the day was about more than soccer. It was a chance to support an important initiative, connect with students, and help create a positive first experience with the game.

"Any opportunity to bring soccer into schools and communities is meaningful," said Andy Vanover, Union Youth Senior Director. "To be part of the launch of a program like this was something our staff was genuinely excited about."

As part of the club's long-term commitment to expanding access to soccer, the Soccer in Schools program aims to reach more than 32,000 students in its inaugural year and eventually impact up to 500,000 students across the Greater Philadelphia region, Delaware, and New Jersey.
