So far in 2018, Philadelphia Union have welcomed new players to the First Team, including the signing of two Homegrown players — defenders Matt Real and Mark McKenzie.
Real debuted as a professional last season with Bethlehem Steel FC — scoring one goal and adding one assist in 17 appearances, all starts, seeing the field for 1,607 minutes.
Prior to signing with Steel, Real rose through the Union’s Academy system, appearing in 46 matches across the U-16 and U-18 teams.
Mark McKenzie, a product of the Union Academy, played last season at Wake Forest University after making eight appearances for Bethlehem Steel FC as an amateur.
While at Wake Forest, McKenzie appeared in 16 matches as a freshman and helped his school finish the season with a 19-2-2 record
Internationally, Real and McKenzie recently returned from the inaugural United States Youth National Team Summit Camp, where they were with the United States U-20 National Team.
Fans can catch Real and McKenzie and the rest of the Union at the team’s home opener, presented by Oliver Heating and Cooling, on March 3. Tickets can be purchased for the match here.
