Philadelphia Union have returned to Chester after earning three points on the road this past Saturday against Montreal Impact. With the Union entering this week on a high after their road victory, we'll take a look at the weekly MLS Power Rankings.
Philadelphia jumped a spot in the ESPNFC Power Rankings to number 15. Their 15 position is their highest ranking and Jason Davis of ESPN noted the win on the road, “The swings are big for the Union, who ended a two-game losing streak with a road victory at Montreal after a loss in midweek against Columbus. The win away from Talen Energy Stadium was the first for Philadelphia since almost exactly a year ago.”
Soccer America: 16
The Union made their biggest jump in Soccer America’s Power Rankings. Philadelphia leaped three spots to number 16. The win in Montreal certainly helped the cause as the club ended their stretch of three road matches in nine days on a high, “Blanked in the first two games of its road swing, Philly got goals late in each half from Corey Burke and Haris Medunjanin to finish it on a winning note.”
Wrapping up the Power Rankings roundup, the Union settle into the number 18 spot on the league website. It’s apparent that the feeling is the club can pick up a win this weekend against visiting Real Salt Lake and go on a summer run, similar to their stretch of play in 2016, “The Union also got a boost with a road win over the Impact after losing in Columbus. Next up, they'll likely look to pick up wins at home, and a game against Real Salt Lake could be a good opportunity to go on a run that they really need right now.
Philadelphia will have an opportunity to continue to climb up the Power Rankings charts next week after a home performance this weekend. The Union will host Real Salt Lake this Saturday at Talen Energy Stadium. Kick-off for Saturday’s match is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on PHL17. Be sure to check back next week and see where the Union stand.
