Union vs. Portland Timbers Starting XI and Lineup Notes, presented by ACME

Philadelphia Union are on the west coast tonight for an inter-conference clash against Portland Timbers. Kick off is set for 11 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on PHL17. Below is the starting lineup and notes:

Starting XI: Andre Blake; Keegan Rosenberry, Jack Elliott, Auston Trusty, Fabinho; Warren Creavalle, Derrick Jones; Fabian Herbers, Borek Dockal, Marcus Epps; CJ Sapong

Bench: John McCarthy, Ray Gaddis, Richie Marquez, Haris Medunjanin, Alejandro Bedoya, David Accam, Fafa Picault

  • Andre Blake has started two previous games against the Portland Timbers and has made six saves over those appearances. He saved four shots in the Union’s victory against the Houston Dynamo last week.
  • Keegan Rosenberry will be making his 20th start of the season for the Union. He has started each of the Union's matches against Portland over the past two seasons. 
  • Jack Elliott will be making his first start for Union since May 9th, 2018 against Columbus Crew SC. This will be his first career appearance against the Portland Timbers.
  • Auston Trusty will be making his first career start against the Portland Timbers tonight. He remains the only field player to play every minute of every regular-season match for the Union entering tonight’s game.
  • Fabinho will be making his sixth start of the season for the Union. This will also be his sixth career appearance against the Portland Timbers.
  • Warren Creavalle will be making his first start since June 30th, 2018 at Los Angeles FC; this will be his fourth start of the campaign. He has one assist on the year, which came against Atlanta United on June 2nd.
  • Derrick Jones will be making his first start of the 2018 regular season tonight. He becomes the 20th different player to start at least one regular-season match for the Union this year. 
  • On September 17th, 2016, Fabian Herbers contributed his sixth assist of that year against the Portland Timbers. This will be his first start for the Union since March 31st, 2018 against the Colorado Rapids.
  • Borek Dockal was named to the Major League Soccer Team of the Week for his two-assist performance against the Houston Dynamo. He has three assists over his last two MLS games.
  • Marcus Epps will be making his eighth start of the season for the Union. This will be his first-ever appearance against the Portland Timbers.
  • On July 2nd, 2011, for Sporting Kansas City, CJ Sapong recorded a goal and an assist as part of a 2-1 win over Portland at Providence Park. This will be his ninth career appearance against the Timbers.
