Both Philadelphia Union Academy sides kicked off Generation adidas Cup in winning fashion Friday, as the U-15s and U-16s earned shutout victories against Sporting Kansas City in their opening matches.
The Philadelphia Union U-15s opened Generation adidas Cup play Friday morning at IMG Academy, facing Sporting Kansas City in Group G action.
After a scoreless first half, the Baby Snakes found their breakthrough in the second. A defensive sequence quickly turned into attack, with a ball played to the back post and cut back before Gino Cecere finished to open the scoring.
As Sporting Kansas City pushed for an equalizer, Mason Cannon sealed the result with a late goal, securing a 2-0 win and all three points for Philadelphia.
The U-15s return to action tomorrow against Inter Miami CF.
The Union Academy U-16s followed with a shutout victory of their own in the afternoon, defeating Sporting Kansas City 1-0 to begin their tournament run.
Timoni Gbalajobi provided the game’s lone goal, striking in the first half and continuing his strong run of form after claiming the U-16 Golden Boot at Snow Bowl 2026.
With the lead in hand, Philadelphia’s defense controlled the match, limiting chances from Sporting Kansas City to secure all three points in Group G play.
The U-16s return to action tomorrow afternoon against Atlanta United FC.
