As part of Giving Tuesday, Philadelphia Union and Sharing Excess worked together to distribute Giving Bags and rescued food for those in need in our region.

Members of the Philadelphia Union front office packed 200 giving bags which were filled with daily necessities to improve hygiene, nourishment, and prevent colds during the Winter months. With supporter from U-Serve members, the club collected an additional 100 giving bags that were handed out for free at Malcolm X Park in West Philadelphia. During the event  1,500 of rescued food proved by Sharing Excess which were given out in under two hours by those in need.

In honor of Hunger Action Month in September, Philadelphia Union and Bimbo Bakeries USA worked together to build and deliver peanut and butter jelly sandwiches to CityTeam Chester. Members of the Philadelphia Union front office and volunteers made 1800 sandwiches that were then later delivered to the local shelter. Volunteers were treated to an open training and a surprise appearance from homegrown, Quinn Sullivan before taking part in the volunteer opportunity.

2023 Backpack Carnival

With a new school year around the corner, Philadelphia Union partnered with CityTeam Chester and WSFS Bank for our annual backpack carnival. The amazing event included fun and games for children around the area as well as bounce houses and face painting.

Each kid in attendance went home with a brand new backpack filled with school supplies to help kick off the new school year and even Union II joined in for a dance break!

Care Baskets for Chester Women's Shelter

Philadelphia Union and WSFS joined forces for Women’s History Month to assemble and deliver care baskets that included toiletries, self-care items, cleaning supplies, and more to donate to CityTeam Chester’s Women’s Shelter. The Women’s shelter provides transitional housing and support to women and children to help them get back on their feet.

Blood Drive

Blood Drive

In honor of Black History Month, Philadelphia Union in partnership with American Red Cross, encouraged eligible donors to give blood to honor the legacies of African-Americans like Dr.Charles Drew and Dr. Jerome Holland, who improve the lives of patients in need of lifesaving blood products. 

With more than 40 registered donors, American Red Cross was able to collect numerous pints of blood.

MLK Day of Service

MLK Day of Service

In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Philadelphia Union front office, Widener University, the City of Chester, and other community programs came together and hosted the city’s annual MLK Day of Service. 

The Union oversees the annual clean-up and with volunteers upwards of 200 people, the group removed over 40 bags of litter along with other large items that had been deposed of on the park grounds.
