Bethlehem Steel FC concluded the 2016 preseason with a 3-0 victory against Georgetown University Sunday. The friendly took place at the Philadelphia Union training facility ahead of the Union’s first home game of the season.
The home side entered the field with the following line-up:
Goalkeeper: Samir Badr
Defense: Taylor Washington, Joshua Yaro, Mickey Daly, Ryan Richter
Midfield: Walter Restrepo, James Chambers, Bolu Akinyode, Derrick Jones, Eric Ayuk
Forward: Amoy Brown
Bethlehem Steel found the back of the net shortly into the first half with a goal from Amoy Brown. Eric Ayuk crossed the ball to Brown, who was wide open in the 18-yard box.
Before half time, captain Ryan Richter extended the lead to 2-0 heading in James Chambers’ cross.
In the second half, the club’s first signing and Union academy product Derrick Jones made the score 3-0. Jones dribbled his way through the Georgetown defense beating the keeper and sent a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner.
Bethlehem Steel FC will start the 2016 season on Friday, March 25 away at FC Montreal. The team will compete in the season home opener against FC Cincinnati at 3 p.m. in Goodman Stadium on April 3. Tickets can be purchased at www.philadelphiaunion.com/steelfc or by calling 1-844-STEELFC.
