Philadelphia Union Foundation Celebration: Save the date for Cocktails and Cleats

For the past three years, we have held a “Cocktails and Cleats” celebration.  Many of you have attended these events to help us: recognize people who make a difference in our community; raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities where we can be involved; and acquire the resources needed to provide effective solutions.   We plan to hold the fourth annual Cocktails and Cleats celebration on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Vie, 600 North Broad Street, in downtown Philadelphia.  We are pleased to return to Vie for an exclusive evening among friends with great food, beverages, and an atmosphere of celebration.  We will recognize the recipient of our “Building Blocks” Award and others who have generously supported our mission.  So, please save the date to join us on November 10th for a fun evening.

Over the past year, we have continued our focus on programs that provide opportunities for our youth to reach their fullest potential.  “It is our aim to have a positive impact on children with respect to character development, academic performance and physical well-being”.  Working with the Philadelphia Union, Major League Soccer, and MLS WORKS, we installed our first Mini Pitch soccer court at the Stetser Elementary School – creating another safe place to play.  The playground and field we built at STEM Academy at Showalter School was maintained with donations of money and time from the community and volunteers.  We held a picnic to recognize their efforts and to celebrate the third anniversary of the playground.  We provided a $25,000 donation to Philabundance and Fare & Square to purchase equipment and to sponsor healthy eating programs for their Fare & Square grocery store located in Chester.  This is the first non-profit food store in the country and serves as a model for the worthy goal of eliminating “food deserts” and hunger in our communities.  We provided a grant to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Program to support mentoring and character development activities for the next ten months.  We partnered with the Allstate Foundation to refurbish public school facilities.  We continued to support the Chester City United, Soccer for Success and Chester City and Chester Upland School District programs promoting educational activities and safe places to play.

The Philadelphia Union Foundation Board and I are pleased with the progress we have made.  These accomplishments, and many others, would not be possible without the generosity of people like you.  So, please mark your calendars to join us for the Cocktails and Cleats event on November 10th and participate in the 50/50 Raffle during Union home games.  We are very fortunate and grateful for your support.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Michael Curry
