Andre Blake and CJ Sapong were named to MLS's Team of the Week for their respective efforts against New York Red Bulls in the Union's 3-0 win.
Blake finds himself on the Team of the Week for the second straight week, after being on the bench last week. Blake registered his second shutout in as many games, the first time in his career he's posted back-to-back shutouts. Blake hasn't allowed a goal in 183 minutes, which is the longest stretch of his career. And in order to preserve the shutout, Blake had to make a diving save against Bradley Wright-Phillips in the 80th minute to keep the score 1-0.
As for Sapong, he registered his first career hat-trick in an 11 minute span, the fastest span from first to third goal in Union history. Sapong scored his first goal in the 74th minute, when his shot deflected off of Daniel Royer and into the back of the net to give the Union the 1-0 lead. Sapong made it 2-0 when he headed home a pass from Chris Pontius in the 81st minute, and capped off the hat-trick when he converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute.
Sapong now is tied with Erick Torres of Houston Dynamo for the goal lead in MLS, and he moved into third all-time in Union history in goals scored. His seven goals leads the Union, and he's just two goals away from his career high mark.
