John McCarthy’s save against Daniel Salloi in the team’s 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City was named Save of the Month for July.
It was the first match McCarthy started in since September of 2016, and he wasn’t afraid to step up to the plate with Andre Blake away for international duty. Since then, he's started the Union's last five matches and has been a force on the line.
McCarthy’s save was just one of six he made in the match, and one of many highlight reel saves during the game. SKC had plenty of opportunities to score against the Union with 14 corner kicks, but McCarthy defended the net making nearly every save in the match.
McCarthy’s save against Salloi registered 60 percent of the vote, and therefore was named Save of the Month.
