Philadelphia Union forward CJ Sapong has rejoined the club for preseason training in Clearwater, Florida after earning his fourth cap with the United States Men’s National Team in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sapong was just one of many new faces called into the USMNT’s annual January camp.
“It was a long month, but it was a great opportunity and I definitely appreciated getting to play with other guys from around the league,” Sapong said.
With a younger USMNT group, Sapong has learned several new skills from his teammates.
“It was a younger group so it was pretty cool seeing how they approach the game and different things that I felt I can assimilate to mine,” Sapong said. “I’m happy to be back and I’m looking forward to taking what I learned and helping us (Philadelphia Union) make a run in 2018.”
When Sapong rejoined the club on Tuesday, he was pleased with the energy that the team presented and is looking forward to continuing that with a fresh start to the 2018 campaign.
“I’m feeling a very good energy and I think that we’ll be able to carry that on through the preseason and then to the season,” Sapong said.
Fans will get to see Sapong and the rest of the Union as they host New England Revolution at the home opener, presented by Oliver Heating and Cooling, on March 3. Tickets for the match can be found here.
