Countdown: 20

Countdown to 2018 Home Opener: Fast & Furious

In 2017 Philadelphia Union showed flashes of brilliance on the perimeter of the pitch by utilizing the speed of Fafa Picault. The Gazelle appeared in 28 matches for the Union while scoring seven goals in his first MLS season including a brace in the season finale against Orlando City SC.

The Union bolstered their speedy attack on the outside with the addition of David Accam this offseason. Primarily a winger, Accam joins the Union following three seasons with Chicago Fire where he scored 33 goals and added 15 assists. He scored at least nine goals in each of his three campaigns with Chicago while playing on the outside.

Since he came to MLS in 2015, Accam is one of just six MLS players to total at least 33 goals and 15 assists in league play. He is joined in that club by the last three MLS Landon Donovan MVP Award winners in Sebastian Giovinco, David Villa and Diego Valeri, as well as Ignacio Piatti and Kei Kamara.

Finishing off the three-headed monster that makes up the Union's speed threat is second-year player out of University of South Florida, Marcus Epps. Epps logged over 700 minutes on the wing for Philadelphia in his rookie season while tallying two goals and one assist.

Philadelphia will be among the fastest teams in MLS with their outside attack, as seen in their preseason rotations with Accam, Epps and Picault. The three have played on the outside in Head Coach Jim Curtin’s 4-2-3-1 formation and their ability to create chances by utilizing the speed the roster has already shown early in their preseason scrimmages.

You can catch these three wingers in action on March 3 when they face off against New England Revolution in the team's home opener, presented by Oliver Heating and Cooling, at Talen Energy Stadium. Tickets for the match can be found here.
