Academy splits matches against rival Red Bulls

Academy_Recap_NYRB

It was a busy weekend for the Philadelphia Union Academy’s U13 and U14 teams as both faced doubleheaders that kicked off against the rival New York Red Bulls on Saturday evening

The U14s opened their double header against the Red Bulls with a 2-1 victory on Saturday. The Red Bulls opened the scoring early converting on a goal in transition in the 8th minute. The Union were able to notch the score at 1-1 heading into the half when Gabriel Wesseh connected on his own chance in transition. Kellan LeBlanc was able to put the game away with some fancy footwork in the box to beat the keeper in the 75th minute.

Meanwhile the U13s long stretch of shutting out opponent after opponent finally came to an end. In a well fought battle, the Union lost 2-1 with Pedro Guimaraes as the lone goal scorer on the day. Even in the loss the team showed defensive prowess with Massimo Morabito and Colin Priestly stepping up to take the challenge.

Look for the U13 and U14 groups to take on PDA for a Halloween showdown on Saturday October 31st.
