Seb training

Insider's perspective - A look into Union's training sessions

The Union have a pretty typical week of training heading into their home match against NYCFC this Saturday, which means two-a-day sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday and morning training on Thursday and Friday.

Once a week, I interview some of the guys for their thoughts on the upcoming game, but not all of their quotes make it into our preview video or pregame show. Here's what I saw and heard from this week's training sessions:

Had a chance to talk to Sebastien Le Toux and we talked about what it will be like when he sees Ethan White on the opposite side of the field on Saturday.

"It’s the first year he's not playing here it's nice to see an old teammate. Now he's on the opposing team, you're just thinking about winning the game. When you're on the field, not too much friendship anymore."

When I asked him if there would be any friendly trash talk on the field, Seba said this with a smirk:

"I'm not really a trash-talker but maybe on his end, but that's not really his style, so I don't think so."

Rookie  Keegan Rosenberry has faced many big-name opponents so far in his young career, but has a good approach to heading into a game where he will go against Italian-great Andrea Pirlo.

"I guess it's similar about when I got questions about  playing against Kaka, but you don't think about it too much. Try to think about it after the game, save it for later, save it for a dinner conversation. If you think about it too much it'll take your focus away from what's at hand - we’ll do our best to contain their special players and do what we do well."

Warren Creavalle touched on the positives he saw from his team out in Seattle:

"Something key for us that we were able to get behind, we fought until the end we showed our character and didn’t give up until the end. We want to be a possession team, we have players who want the ball, and it's a huge advantage for us if we can connect on our passes."

A few other notes from practice this week;
  • Maurice Edu was going through his rehab routine on the training field where the team was practicing. He seems to be making good progress.
  • Ilsinho trained with the team during drills and scrimmages, while Ken Tribbett completed individual drills off to the side
  • Josh Yaro also saw a lot of good minutes in training
