Philadelphia Union Academy oldest teams kept on rolling this weekend taking down rival D.C. United in both the U17s and U15s matches to remain undefeated in MLS NEXT competition.


The Philadelphia Union Academy U15 squad took home the 3-1 victory on the road against D.C. United. Henry Bernstein opened the scoring with a killer Olympico goal in the 17th minute. They added to the lead when Joel Torbic converted a penalty in the 61st, but D.C. answered back in the 63rd. team did a good job to keep pushing when down to 10 men to finish the game. The well-balanced attack saw Zach Greer, Matt Routzahn, Antonio Horozoglou, and Jack Brown all notching goals on the day. Antonios Horozoglou provided the insurance goal on the day when the Union’s pressure resulted in a turnover that led right into Antonio’s late goal in the 83rd minute of play.


The U17’s made their presence known early in their match against D.C. United this past weekend when Gael Medrano converted just 43 seconds into the game. After D.C. United tied the game up in the 56th minute Bajung Darboe scored what would go on to be the game winner in the 70th minute off of the Frankie Westfield assist. This was Darboe’s U-17 debut with the Union after joining the Union academy from Minnesota earlier this month.


Both sides return to MLS NEXT competition on Saturday afternoon with contests against PDA.
