The Seattle Sounders' U-17 squad (1-0-1) continued its strong play with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union (0-1-1) thanks to a strong defensive effort from the Sounders back line and goalkeeper Rodney Greiling. Both of Seattle's goals were courtesy of defenders - Michael Gallagher and Ian Lange, respectively. Midfielder Aaron Kovar, a standout for Seattle thus far, delivered an inswinging corner kick that Gallagher redirected with a sharp header for the first goal. Lange then got on the end of a loose ball in the box after another Kovar corner to give Sounders FC a 2-0 halftime lead.
Philadelphia, affectionately named the "Zolitos" but some Union fans, rallied in the second half after inserting many of the previous evening's starters, including Friday's goalscorer Melvin Snoh and standout midfielder Jimmy McLaughlin. Midfielder Colin O'Neill connected on a cross to bring the Union within a goal, but outstanding goalkeeping by Greiling preserved the victory for Seattle.
