Thank You Toy

For 3rd Annual Toy Drive, the Union team up with CityTeam Chester

The holiday season is upon us, and the Philadelphia Union are set to host its 3rd annual Toy Drive. The Union has teamed up with the CityTeam Chester’s this year.  The drive will begin alongside the Union’s annual holiday event at PPL Park on Sunday, Dec. 6.

For more than 15 years, CityTeam Chester has been dedicated to helping less fortunate kids get toys on Christmas morning.

“Even more so, moms and dads who really need help during the holiday season,” states Kwinn Tucker, CityTeam Chester Director.

CityTeam aren’t just a normal toy drive team, they have a very unique catch to their system. They allow the parents of the children to tell them exactly what kind of toys they want, and go out and collect those exact toys.

This is the Adopt a Family Program. Anyone interested can sign up and pick out which child’s list they want to help with (minimum of two toys.) The toys are brought to the CityTeam warehouse, and then they are packed and sent out to the parents of the child (along with wrapping paper). This is thanks to hundreds of volunteers who load up their own cars and deliver these toys to the families. However, due to time restrictions, anyone interested is encouraged to visit CityTeam Chester's website here.

Last year, CityTeam Chester were able to help more than 2,000 children get the toys they wanted, but only half of those were from the Adopt a Family program. The rest came from toy drives, like this event where there will be a donation bin. This year, they would love to have all the children’s wish lists adopted by someone who wants to help.

Other than the Adopt a Family program, CityTeam always welcomes any type of volunteers. Volunteering ranges from helping pack the toys, to organizing them, to delivering them, and etc.

“Every little bit helps,” Tucker said.

The Philadelphia Union are doing everything in their power to help the CityTeam. PPL Park will be the site of the Toy Drive on Dec. 6, during the holiday event. The event will also include the Union’s Inaugural 5K run.

If anyone is interested in donating a toy, they can do so at the 5K/Holiday Event. If you are interested in Adopting A Family, please contact Nancy Craskey at
