Philadelphia Union announce 2016 broadcast, theme and title schedule

Philadelphia Union announced today the club has released its full broadcast, theme and title night schedule for the 2016 season. In addition to all 34 MLS Regular Season games being aired live, including three nationally televised games at Talen Energy Stadium, the Union will have four games aired on 6abc/Live Well Network, including the home opener against New England. Remaining Philadelphia Union home games will be aired on either Comcast SportsNet or The Comcast Network.

“We have set a city-wide standard for our live match day experience. We are truly excited to simultaneously offer a premium viewing experience in conjunction with some of Philadelphia’s most watched networks.” Philadelphia Union Chief Business Officer Tim McDermott said. “As we look to continue to build our brand, we are fortunate to team up with such recognized names in our market, showcasing our product and the live experience that we so deeply value.”

Three matches on 6abc will feature half-hour pre-game shows. The Union’s second match of the season, at Columbus Crew SC, the reigning Eastern Conference champion, will air on LWN. 6abc will then air home matches against New England Revolution (March 20), New York City FC (April 23) and San Jose Earthquakes (April 30). The pre-game show against the Revolution will start at 2 p.m., while the show will start at 3:30 p.m. against both NYCFC and San Jose.

“It’s a great honor to partner with the Philadelphia Union and to televise these four home matches,” said Bernie Prazenica, President & General Manager of 6abc. “The Union have a passionate fan base and we’re thrilled to bring these games into everyone’s homes.”

Outside of four matches on 6abc/LWN and three matches on nationally televised networks, the remaining 27 matches will be shown on the official home of the Philadelphia Union, either Comcast SportsNet or The Comcast Network. From May through September, home matches on these networks will start at 7 p.m. Home matches prior to May will begin at 4 p.m. for Saturday matches (except for the home opener) or 7 p.m. for weekday matches.

“Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network pride ourselves in delivering Philadelphia fans a robust Union soccer lineup with 27 live game broadcasts, our ‘State of the Union’ magazine program, and dedicated coverage on CSNPhilly.com,” said Comcast SportsNet President Brian Monihan. “We are fortunate to have a great broadcast team in JP and Peter, and look forward to wrapping the Union’s Marisa Pilla into our coverage in 2016.”

The Union also announced its theme night schedule for the 2016 season. It will begin with Irish Night for the home opener on March 20 against New England Revolution. The Union will introduce U-Fit night for the first time on June 1 against Columbus Crew SC.

After the break for the Copa America 2016, the Union will host International Night (June 25 against Vancouver Whitecaps) and America Night (July 9 against D.C. United). The club will end the year with U-toberfest (Sept. 10 against Montreal Impact) and U Thank U Night (Oct. 23. against New York Red Bulls).
