Philadelphia Union look to bounce back from a two game losing streak against conference rival D.C. United tonight at RFK Stadium in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Tonight’s match will break the all-time series deadlock between the two clubs with the series record being 7-7-3. Here are some notes about the Union’s starting lineup.
Andre Blake makes his 22nd start for Philadelphia this season. The Union’s All-Star keeper is just three saves away from 100 for his MLS career.
Across the backline goes Fabinho, Richie Marquez, Ken Tribbett and Keegan Rosenberry for the 10th time this season. Fabinho is making his 70th MLS start, while Marquez and Tribbett make their 22nd and 13th starts this season, respectively. Rosenberry will start his 23rd straight MLS match, which continues to lead the Union and all MLS rookies.
Brian Carroll wears the armband in his 20th start for Philadelphia this season. The start marks the 11th time in Carroll’s 14 MLS seasons that he has started 20 or more MLS matches. Alongside him is Tranquillo Barnetta, who is making his 25th MLS start.
Also in the midfield are Chris Pontius, Fabian Herbers and Ilsinho. Pontius makes his return to RFK Stadium after playing his first seven MLS seasons with D.C. United. He leads the Union in goals (8) and is tied with Herbers, who is making his fourth start in his rookie season, in assists (4).
Alone up top for the Union, making his 19th start this season, will be C.J. Sapong. Sapong will be backed up by the newest member of Curtins’ squad, Charlie Davies, who is on the bench but in the available 18.
