The awards just keep piling up for Union goalkeeper Andre Blake.
On Thursday afternoon it was announced that Blake had been named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, and just a day prior, he received similar honors from Goal.com.
In a post on their website, Goal writes “the Philadelphia Union 'keeper made the impossible saves possible, holding together a back line that suffered through injuries”, adding that his performance was a key part to the Union making their post-season run.
Blake’s 2016 season was decorated with honors and awards from start to finish. In July he was named to the MLS All-Star team, served as captain for the Jamaican national team, and was a consistent contender for MLS Save of the Week – earning 12 nominations throughout the season.
Blake certainly had himself a career year in 2016, which hopefully means only good things are to come from the Union keeper in the future.
