Union Academy teams return from playoffs

Earlier this week, the Union Academy U16’s and U18’s completed their run in the US Soccer Development Academy Playoffs. The teams needed to win their respective groups, which were full of tough opposition in MLS Academies and DA clubs alike, in order to advance to the next round. Unfortunately, despite many great team plays and moments of brilliance on the field, neither were able to win their group to progress to the quarterfinals. One of these notable moments is being hailed as the goal of the tournament, a bicycle kick from midfielder Manny Perez in the U18 match against Lonestar SC Academy.

U16 head coach Chris Brewer was “very pleased with the growth and progress of the players.”  The U16’s have certainly made an impact this year, reaching the semifinals in their Generation Adidas Cup division as well as the playoffs despite having boys playing up with the U18’s, and even Bethlehem Steel. Coach Brewer added that “several of (the U16’s) have a bright future and possess the ability to continue to matriculate through the club.”
