John McCarthy was named to MLS Save of the Week for his diving save against Daniel Salloi in the Union's 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City last Thursday.
In the 28th minute, Salloi taunted McCarthy with a right footed shot from outside the box. McCarthy protected the net fearlessly from Salloi's rocket, and saved the ball in the top center of the goal.
Throughout the match, McCarthy continued to rattle off highlight save after highlight save and is a major reason why the Union were able to walk away from Kansas City with a point.
It's no surprise McCarthy performed valiantly in his first MLS start of the season. In total he made six saves, a career-high for McCarthy and the second most by a Union keeper this season, and was one of the best players on the pitch for the Union against Sporting Kansas City.
