The US Men’s National Team defeated Nicaragua 3-0, winning Group B play in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Union’s Alejandro Bedoya and Chris Pontius were named to the starting XI for the first time together as a part of the USMNT, and each played 90 minutes in the match.
Bedoya made his mark on the match, as he was able to make two assists in the 37th and 57th minute. It was the third game with multiple assists since the start of 2013 and is the most by any USMNT over that time. For his efforts in the game, Bedoya was named the Man of the Match. Bedoya served as captain for the match, his second time doing so for the tournament. His match was his 64th overall cap for the USMNT.
As for Pontius, he earned his fourth international cap, while starting a USMNT match for the second time in his career. He registered one shot on goal, while also drawing a foul.
